Generally, teens don’t have a lot of time to practice. Teenage students need pieces that give a lot of bang for their buck.
They need showstopper pieces that have lots of patterns.
They want pieces that look impressive – those pieces that look harder than they actually are.
I always supplement standard method books with extra pieces for students. It enhances students’ reading ability to see various types of print and styles. I usually make lists of my favorite so that I can pick music for students quickly.
I find that my students always practice a piece that is printed as a sheet. Perhaps it’s less overwhelming than something in a book.
Here is my list of favorites for teens. Each piece has patterns that will make it quick for teen students to learn. These would also work great for adult students!
